My name is Taz, and this is the story of my retirement from active duty to civilian life as a service dog. My hashtag is #tazoteausmc and this Day 15.
Today we went to the beach because Mom (yeah, she says she’s my dog mom and not just the food lady) said me and the boy needed to run wild and “burn off energy” while she thought about important things.
I met lots of friends. Toby and Lulu and Spike and Come Back Here and I played for so many hours. I don’t know why people throw balls at us, but the others are happy to get them from the scary sand pond while I watch. We ran, and we all dug lots of holes and barked at each other and sniffed stuff all day. Come Back Here’s mom had treats, and she gave them to us if we sat and didn’t throw sand at her. I got lots of treats. Toby’s dad had hot dog treats.
I love the beach and the sand and the giant salt pond.
Mom says I didn’t do one perimeter check and didn’t sniff one bag. She told me to stop licking the sunscreen off someone’s face, but I didn’t listen because the sunscreen smelled so good, and it’s delicious. Not taco delicious, but pretty tasty. She asked what happened to being suspicious of strangers, but why be suspicious if they taste good? Also, she says no one will believe I am a highly trained military machine because I’ve become a disobedient, domesticated pet. That’s okay with me, because pets get taco. I love taco.
Mom says I don’t listen to anything anymore, and I’m a disgrace. Years of training forgotten in two weeks. But I love my boy. More than anything. I love him. I love to play with him and sleep with him and hang around with him.
My auntie Judy Collins sent me the bestest new bed today. It’s amazing. Mom says I can’t lay on it until I get a bath because I rolled in the sand and got wet and laid in dirt. I’m hiding from her because I don’t want a bath, but I really want my new bed.
I think this retirement gig is kinda cool.
